1966 Alfa Romeo 2600 SZ Coupe

The Alfa Romeo 2600 was introduced in March of 1962 at the Geneva Motor Show. It replaced the previous 2000 model. The Sprint was a four-seater coupe, easily recognizable by the hood ducts, powered by a six-cylinder engine, and based on the 2600 Spider and Saloon. A few of the bodies were outfitted by Italian coachbuilder Zagato and were sold as the 2600 Sprint Zagato. Technical data show 145 horsepower at 5,900 RPM, with a top speed of 130 miles per hour. With an overall weight of 2,500 pounds acceleration is brisk with 0-60 MPH taking 11 seconds. A total of 105 cars were built, including five prototypes. 60 are believed to have survived worldwide. This is a car that will be recognized for its remarkable appearance and unconventional design. Its designer, Ercole Spada is one of the lesser-known, though most important, automobile designers of northern Italy.
