1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet

This is the only known 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet that left the factory finish in Paint-to-Sample Orange with a full black leather interior and black canvas top. It is equipped with the 'C' engine which, with 75 horsepower, replaced the 1600 Super of the 356 B. The Cs and SCs were now equipped with ATE disc brakes and a stronger, larger clutch. The padded fabric top aided in reducing highway noise, and the smaller diameter torsion bars provided a better ride.

This is a US-specification C Cabriolet that was completed on July 20th, 1964. It was originally owned by J.L. Hutchinson of Garland, Texas who had specified a green-tinted windshield, polished side trim, Continental tires, and chromed wheels and hubcaps.

The history of this vehicle is not fully known, but by 2015 it was in the care of its current owner who acquired it from Weldon Scrogham of G&W Motorwerkes. The car was given a bare-metal restoration, during which it was discovered that the original 75-horsepower C engine had been replaced at some earlier point with a new engine on an un-stamped, series-correct case.

Since the restoration, the car has been shown at the Concours on the Avenue in Carmel, California in 2016, and received the Palmetto Award at the Hilton Head Island Concours that same year. It was judged the 356 Open Class winner at the 2017 and 2018 Amelia Island PCA Werks Reunion and received Best Porsche at the 2017 Atlanta Concours d'Elegance.
