2019 Porsche 911 Speedster Navigation
The seventh generation of Porsche's 911, known as the Type 991, served as a replacement to the Type 997. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of 2011, the Type 991 is only the third all-new platform of the 911 since the original of 1963 (the second was the 996 of 1999). Development was overseen by Porsche's Chief Designer, Michael Mauer, and retained the classic 911 appearance but slightly larger than its immediate predecessor. The wheelbase increased by 100mm and a new transaxle enabled the rear wheels to be relocated 76mm rearwards relative to the engine, improving cornering performance and weight distribution.
The Type 991 was offered in three different displacement sizes of 3.4-, 3.8-, and 4.0-liters with power that ranged from 345 to 552 horsepower. Body styles included the Cabriolet, Coupe, and Targa, along with GT3 and GT3 RS variants. Transmission options were a six- or seven-speed manual, along with Porsche's dual-clutch (PDK) shift option.
Following styling revisions in September of 2015, the Type 991 became known as the '991.2'. The standard engine was now turbocharged, and in March of 2016 - at the Geneva Motor Show - Porsche introduced the limited edition 911 R equipped with the GT3 RS's normally aspirated 4.0-liter engine backed by a new six-speed manual gearbox.
The Type 991.2 Speedster Concept was introduced in 2018 at the Paris Motor Show in celebration of the company's 70th anniversary. The production Speedster followed in April of 2019 at the New York Auto Show with deliveries commencing in May of that year. In total, just 1,948 examples were built.
The 991.2 Speedster was built atop the chassis of the GT3 and wore the bodyshell of the Carrera 4 Cabriolet. Power was from the GT3 RS's 4.0-liter normally aspirated flat-six engine developing just over 500 horsepower. Styling features included a pair of 'camel hump' cowlings behind the seats among many other special features. There were carbon fiber front fenders and hood from the 911 R, and a carbon-fiber roof cover, a GT3 bumper, a leather interior with perforated seats, a titanium exhaust system, carbon-ceramic brakes, stone guards, and red-tinted daytime running lights.
This example was delivered new to California and has covered just 50 miles in the care of its sole owner. It is finished in special order paint-to-sample color of Oslo Blue with black leather interior. It was equipped with an extended range fuel tank, front axle lift system, fire extinguisher, light design package, Bose surround sound system, auto-dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensors, crono package, and LED headlights in black with PDLS.By Daniel Vaughan | Jul 2021
