1920 Marmon Model 34B Navigation
This 1920 Marmon Model 34B Seven-Passenger Tourer is equipped with an overhead-valve, 340 cubic-inch straight-6 engine producing 74 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual gearbox and two-wheel drum servo-assisted brakes. This Marmon spent much of its life in the Southeastern United States, mostly in Mobile, Alabama. It is believed that the car was acquired by Mr. Mabry Stone in the late 1950s or early 1960s. A 1967 National Geographic feature article of the City of Mobile included the Marmon in front of an estate home with the Southern Belles in their period dress around the car.
With its powerful 340 CID engine, the Marmon 34B was a fast car with responsive steering. The dash instrumentation is clustered under a single glass panel - a first in the industry.
It is believed that this car is a factory 'renewed' car with updated drum headlights and a Lyon accessory front bumper installed in the early 1920s. It has a tool compartment on the driver's door, ignition switch all keyed alike, and a locking gear shifter.
The current owner acquired this Marin in 2013 from the estate of Mabry Stone. Prior to Mabry's passing, the engine was freshly rebuilt and the Houck wire wheels were painted. The remainder of the car is original with factory paint and pinstriping. The leather interior is also original, however, the front seat cushions were redone at some point. The side curtains, top boot, and top are also original.By Daniel Vaughan | Jul 2021
