1931 Duesenberg Model J Navigation
The 1931 Tourster is said to be designer Gordon Buehrigs's favorite Duesenberg. With the many Duesenberg designs he is credited to, that is a very strong statement. Just eight were built in 1931 on a 153.5-inch wheelbase Model J chassis. The exclusive body builder for the Tourster was Derham Body Company of Rosemont, Pennsylvania. Beuhrig devised a unique way to address the common issue of dual-cowl Phaetons which required hinging the rear windscreen. The Tourster utilizes a sliding rear screen operated by a hand crank.
This Durham Tourster completed an extensive full restoration in (or around) 2021. The black finish is complemented by a grey ostrich interior with a grey canvas top. It went down to the bare chassis, and meticulous care was taken to return it to its original glory. the 2021 Concours d'Elegance at the Inn at St. Johns was its first public showing post-restoration.
