1991 Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 Coupe

This unusual car was built by Zagato in Milan, Italy for Autech, the in-house tuning division of Nissan. When it debuted in 1989 it cost 18 million yen, or $160,000, the equivalent of two Honda NSXs, making it difficult to sell the planned 104 units. In the end, only 88 examples were sold, making it one of the rarest production cars in the world.

This is one of the automotive world's most wonderfully bizarre creations. the proportions are short, tall, and triangular. There is even a hint of Zagato's signature double-bubble and a 'wedge' in the styling. It simultaneously embodies everything great about Japanese cars of the 1980s and the most eccentric of Zagato's styling flourishes. 'When you see a car and it is a little different from all the other cars,' said Elio Zagato, 'a little strange, then it is a Zagato.'
