1957 Ford Thunderbird Model F Navigation
While any first-generation Thunderbird is easily recognized, it is the rare supercharged F model that is among the most sought-after. Originally built as a quick response to Chevrolet's Corvette, Ford crushed the competition by outselling the Corvette with their more luxurious take on the American two-seater. In 1957, Ford developed a special version to run the Daytona Speed Trials. They sent a fleet of 15 supercharged Thunderbirds that would sweep the races. A new record of 138.755 miles per hour for the two-way flying mile was set on the beach.
With a base price of $3,690, it is believed that about 200 F-model Thunderbirds were built. With the 312 cubic inch V8 engine utilizing a McCullough supercharger, it produces a formidable 300 horsepower.
This example of an original F-Bird recently came out of a complete Concours Authenticity Rules restoration by a nationally recognized Thunderbird specialist.
