1960 Mercury Monterey Convertible

After a flamboyant series of Mercurys met a lukewarm reception in the late 1950s, the 1960 model was pleasingly updated with more conservative, cleaner lines. Three series were offered: the lowest-priced Monterey, the mid-level Montclair, and the top-of-the-line Park Lane. In addition, a line of luxury wagons was quite popular. Convertibles were available in both Monterey and Park Lane trim levels.

This Monterey convertible, which was originally listed for $3,077 without options, has an overall length of 219.2 inches and weighs 4,100 pounds. This was a full-size automobile by any measure. For 1960, Mercury sales increased modestly, with total production topping the 155,000 mark. Of these, just 6,062 were Monterey convertibles. Standard features included a 312 cubic inch V8, 'Road-Tuned' wheels, 'Chair-High' seats, a 'Panoramic Skylight' windshield, and a 'Jet-Stream' heater/defroster. The 1960 edition was the last truly unique full-size Mercury and not merely a 'dressed up' Ford.
