Designed by Bertone, the X1/9 is an early mass-produced car with wedge styling. It was manufactured by Fiat from 1972 to 1982 and subsequently by Gruppo Bertone from 1982 to 1989.
This example was purchased from the original owner who worked at Hughes Aircraft in Culver City, California. The vehicle ended up in Michigan where it fell into a state of dereliction. It was acquired by the current owner in the mid-1990's who lovingly restored it over an extended period in his garage and repainted it in its original French Blue. During the restoration, it was outfitted with the correct European specification bumpers and period-correct Cromadora wheels. The engine was re-built to European specifications.
Being an early car, it boasts features such as the brightwork around the taillights, futuristic dashboard, low-profile engine cover, and the slotted rear valance.
