1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Drophead Coupe

One of 281 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continentals built, this Continental carries elegant and unique drophead coupe coachwork by Carlton. it was ordered from Jack Barclay in June 1934 by the Honorable H.L. Parker, later to become the Lord Chief Justice of England. In 1957, it passed to its second owner, Peter Simnett of London, who in turn sold the car to Mr. Elwood Hanson of California. In 1964 it was purchased by Robert Davies who owned it until 1999 and won numerous awards with it here over the years, often placing first in class and garnering the first Lucius Beebe award, in 1966. It also achieved first place awards at the Classic Car Club and Rolls-Royce national meets. In 1977 it traveled to England to partake in the Silver Jubilee, at which time it was briefly reunited with its original owner. Davies recounted his European travels with the Continental in a book entitled Black Beauty. The car received a body-off restoration in preparation for the 2001 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, when it again placed First in Class. At the 2004 Louis Vuitton Classic Concours d'Elegance at Waddesdon Manor in England it won Best in Show.
