1948 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Cabriolet

Count Goffredo Zehender, the Grand Prix and sports car driver from Torino purchased this 6C 2500 new on May 2, 1949 - one of only 63 Super Sports fitted with the two-seater cabriolet body by Pininfarina. Zehender was a successful racer with a first at the 24 Hours of Spa in 1931, and he went on to be a works driver for Alfa Romeo. Much of the car's early history is undocumented, but it was eventually owned by a top-gun acrobatic pilot in the French air force, performing for La Patrouille de France - the equivalent of the Blue Angels. In 2000, the Alfa went to Barcelona and into the stewardship of the Vilanova Collection. The current owner drove the car in the 2011, 2012 and 2014 Mille Miglia races while it remained in the ownership of the Collection, and eventually persuaded Collection officials to sell the car in 2017. After 60 years of intensive driving, the 6C remained in original and authentic condition, but was in need of some restorative care. A painstaking restoration over two years maintained the Alfa's integrity, while renewing its vigor. Today it appears in its original paint color of Grigio Ferro Metallizzato (Metallic Iron Grey), exactly as it did when the Count took delivery.
