1915 REO The Fifth Navigation
This REO Model ST 5 'The Fifth' wears five-passenger touring coachwork and is powered by a 240.5 cubic-inch F-head four-cylinder engine with a single carburetor and delivers 35 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel mechanical drum brakes. It was purchased new and owned by a family in Binghampton, NY for nearly five decades. When new, it was priced at approximately $1,050.
As the years progressed, the REO was primarily stored in a barn, and when the patriarch of the family died, his son decided to get the car out and take it to a local car show in Binghampton. While at the show, the car got caught in a quickfire due to the car's gas line not being properly turned off. Only the canvas top and the wood header above the windshield were singed, and later properly replaced.
In the early 1960s, the car was acquired by Glenn Crater of Kinnelon, NJ, and used on many driving car tours in Canada, New York, and New Jersey.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2021
