Steve Saleen established a reputation among Ford loyalists for his high-performance versions of the Mustang. With the introduction of the S7, he went from tuner to manufacturer and an instant contender for the title of America's Supercar. Mounted mid-ship was a 7.0-liter, overhead-valve, all-aluminum V8 engine based on Ford small-block architecture and delivering 550 horsepower. It was placed in a competition-style, heavily triangulated space frame of lightweight 4130 chrome-moly steel tubing and aluminum honeycomb composite panels, bolted together in subassemblies to allow quick access for servicing. Nearly all of the components were manufactured in-house at Saleen's Irvine, California, facility. This includes the suspension and brakes but not the carbon fiber body panels.
The Saleen S7-R won numerous sports car and endurance titles, establishing the car's credentials on the race track.
The Saleen S7 Twin Turbo was introduced in 2005 and took the S7's performance to higher levels. With the use of intercooled Garrett turbochargers, the Twin Turbo delivered 750 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. The power was sent through a hybrid twin-disc hydraulic clutch, 6-speed manual transmission and longitudinally mounted all-synchro transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Zero-to-sixty mph took just 2.8 seconds.
This particular 2005 Saleen Twin Turbo is one of only 14 examples produced that year and currently has just 755 miles on the odometer. It is finished in exclusive Lizstick Red, a unique color named for Steve Saleen's wife Liz. Optional equipment includes polished Saleen aluminum wheels and a GPS navigation system. The comfortable but snug cockpit features black leather and suede upholstery, a fully adjustable tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power windows, power locks and remote opening doors and trunk.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2021
