1989 Porsche 911 Navigation
A modern variation of the Avant-grade 356 Speedster of the 1950s was conceived in the mid-1980s by Peter Schutz and based on the 911 Cabriolet. Porsche's technical director, Helmuth Bott, refined the concept by adding a hard removable rear tonneau giving it a similar profile to the original 356 Speedster. The Speedster wore a cut-down windscreen, deleted vent windows, a low-profile manual top, wind-up side windows, and deleted rear seats accommodating the 'double-hump' fiberglass top cover. Between August 1988 to July 1989, Porsche built 2,065 Speedsters including 823 for the United States. 1,894 of those wore the 'Turbo Look' based on the 930 Turo body shell and only sold to Germany and America. Additional features included heavy-duty 4-piston disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors and 7-inch front and 9-inch rear wheels.
The Speedster's base price was $65,480 and the 'Turbo Look' option added $13,045.
