1967 Porsche 911S Targa

The short-wheelbase 911 S (for 'Super') was introduced in 1967 equipped with a 2.0-liter engine delivering 160 horsepower and included an upgraded suspension, Fuchs five-spoke alloy wheels, and ventilated disc brakes. Another addition was the optional open-topped version named for the Sicilian road race, the Targa, incorporating a stainless steel roll bar, removable roof panel, and foldaway plastic rear window in the earliest examples.

It is believed that 483 examples of the Soft-Window Targa were built in 1967 and this example was completed on May 8th of 1967 and finished in Bahama Yellow over a black leatherette interior. It left the factory equipped with a Webasto gas heater, antenna, loudspeaker, seat belts, Dunlop radial tires, tinted windshield, and side glass. The Porsche later received a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, most likely from the selling dealer.

The early history is not known but around 2008 it was acquired by Eade Hopkinson of Encinitas, California. Mr. Hopkinson would set about to restore the car with the aim of retaining as much originality as possible. The work was completed around 2009 and it wore a repaint in its original shade of Bahama Yellow. The matching-numbers engine and transaxle were completely rebuilt with the motor receiving new valves, honed cylinders, 930 chain tensioners, and SSI stainless steel heat exchangers. The five-speed gearbox was given new factory gears to shorten 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

In 2010, the car was sold to Dr. Steve Langer of Milton, New Jersey who sent the car to Paterek Brothers of Chatham, New Jersey for further improvement at a cost of $65,000. The current owner acquired the car in 2013.
