Very few vehicles have remained in the care of their original owner as long as this 275 GTB/4, purchased in October of 1967 by Donald L. Weber and his wife who arrived in modena to take delivery of the red car with U.S.-specification options and trim. This was one of fifteen 275 GTB/4 that were shown by Mr. Manicardi, Ferrari's general sales manager, and all under covers and in a row. After being told that the car was already sold, he was introduced to Luigi Chinetti, the US Ferrari importer. Chinetti worked it out so that Weber could buy the car and the deal was done; Donald L. Weber had purchased his first new Ferrari. Over the following two days, the 275 was equipped by the factory technicians with electric window lifts, an electric antenna, a chrome bar on the front nose, and the driver's seat had padding removed to accommodate his large frame.
Mr. Weber drove his new car to Paris and upon arriving at the Mont Blanc pass, was told that it was closed and had to pay his way through. After a night in Geneva, at the Presidente Hotel, he arrived in Paris and checked into the Hotel Celtic. The following morning, the car was driven around the Arc de Triomphe and down the Champs-Élysées before heading to Le Havre, France where the car was loaded on a ship destined for the United States and Mr. Weber's home in California.
When the 275 arrived in Los Angeles, Mr. Weber used his vehicle regularly and around 1989, hired the Ferrari specialist in the area to restore the four cam, which showed approximately 36,000 miles. The body and trim were restored by Herschel 'Junior' Conway while the engine was rebuilt by Richard van de Water. The interior was re-upholstered by Tony Nancy. After the work was completed, the car was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 1997.
In 2007, Weber applied for Ferrari's then-new classiche certification for his 275 GTB. The car currently displays 37,115 miles on the odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2021
