1971 Porsche 914/6 Navigation
The M471 Competition option package was offered in 1971 and early 1972, designed to homologate the racing version of the 914/6 GT. They were quietly announced in a March 1971 sales bulletin entitled 'The Competition Option Group' and produced in limited quantities, with 23 total examples built including 15 in 1971 originally intended to become race cars. Upgrades included 21-millimeter wheel spacers, flared fiberglass rocker panels, 6x15 Fuchs alloy wheels, steel flared front valance, and wide steel fender flares.
This Porsche 914/6 was the final M471 GT sold in 1971 and was sold to Porsche-Audi USA, delivered in Gemini Blue with a one-year-only black leatherette interior that used a smooth vinyl rather than 'brick-textured' material. It is one of two examples finished in Gemini Blue. This Porsche was subsequently sold to a dealer in North Carolina who owned it until approximately 1990, when it was acquired by George Hussey of Marietta, Georgia. Hussey began a years-long restoration bringing it back to its original form. The body was stripped to its bare shell and refinished in its correct Glasurit L96E Gemini Blue. A new OEM speedometer/odometer head was installed and set to zero at that time, currently showing 5,200 miles.
The front brakes were upgraded and factory rear anti-roll bars were added to improve its handling, which became optional factory 914 equipment in 1972, along with a fresh set of Bilstein shocks and struts.
