1907 Cadillac Model K Navigation
Cadillac's model line-up for 1907 included four series consisting of two single-cylinder models and two four-cylinder models. Even though the more powerful four-cylinder units were available, many customers still preferred the single-cylinder units. 1906 and 1907 were the most popular years for the 1-cylinder engines. The Model K was available only in one body style for 1907, and it was a two-seater runabout known as the 'Tulip' roadster and had a base price of $800. This was an increase in price by $50 over the 1906 model. The roadster had optional equipment including three different tops and lamps.
There were aesthetic differences between the 1906 and 1907 Cadillac Model K. The 1907 versions had altered front fenders, an additional inside skirt, and a flattened nose. Mechanically, they were nearly identical as well, with a few differences between them. The oiler drive changed from cam to pulley, an engine/transmission drip pan was added, and the muffler outlet was now at the front instead of the side.
This 1907 Cadillac Model K Tulip Roadster was offered for sale at the Vintage Motor Cars sale at Hershey, PA presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $50,000-$70,000 and offered without reserve. A high bid of $49,500 including the buyer's premium nearly reached the low-end of the estimated value. The lot was sold and passed to new ownership, after spending a quarter-of-a-century in a private museum. Prior to becoming a static display, the car was used frequently on tours.
This is a very original car, featuring its original body, seat, hood, dash, and radiator. There are red wooden wheels, black tufted leather upholstery, brass headlamps, side lamps, and a period horn. It has its correct single-cylinder Cadillac motor, two-speed forward plus reverse, planetary transmission, and mechanical oiler.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2007
