1954 Austin-Healey 100-4 BN1 Navigation
The Austin-Healey 100-4 BN1 or BN2 models could be fitted with the Le Mans modification kit as a dealer-installed option or ordered through BMC. Upgrades included leather bonnet straps, an aluminum air box, a high-lift camshaft, a louvered bonnet, larger carburetors, and high-compression pistons. The engine updates brought output to approximately 100 horsepower.
This particular 1954 Austin-Healey BN1 left the factory completed in left-hand drive destined for North American export. The vehicle was completed on June 17th, 1954, and delivered new to the Austin Motor Company of America, finished in Spruce Green over a Green interior. It came with 12-volt electrics, Smiths miles-per-hour speedometer, 590x15 tires, SU H4 carburetors, and a rear axle ratio of 8 to 33. It is believed that the vehicle was upgraded to the 100 M (BN2) 'LeMans' specification at some point in its life, though it is unknown if it was dealer-installed.
This Austin-Healey was given a restoration years ago and finished in red with a black convertible top and black tonneau cover. The front bumper was removed, replaced by fog lights mounted to the front bumper brackets. The louvered bonnet has leather bonnet straps, and the windshield can stow flat. The chrome knock-off wire wheels are wrapped with Michelin XZX tires, with a full spare in the trunk.
The numbers-matching inline four-cylinder engine is paired with a Healey 5 Speed manual transmission. The interior is trimmed in black with red welting and features a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger grab handle, and SMiths instrumentation including a 6,000 RPM tachometer and 120 mph speedometer.
