1971 Jaguar XKE E-Type Navigation
Primrose yellow with tan interior
Engine: V12, overhead camshafts, triple carburetors, 5,343cc, 241bhp at 4,750rpm; Gearbox: three speed automatic; Suspension: independent front with double wishbones and torsion bars, rear independent by trailing and transverse links with coil spring/damper units; Brakes: four wheel disc. Left hand drive.
This classic Jaguar model which was originally powered by a 3.8 liter engine, and later upgraded to 4.2, gained even more superior performance in 1971 when the 5.3 liter V12 was made available. This was Jaguar's first all-new engine since the debut of the XK120. With 241 horsepower and the smooth V12, the Jaguar was a refined yet exciting car. Prior to 1971 only Ferrari and Lamborghini provided this combination, but with less sophistication and at a much higher price.
The 'Series 3' E-Type was offered in two body styles, the roadster and the 2+2 coupe. Production ran between 1971 and 1975 and when the final E-Type ran off the production line, over 15,000 had been produced. The 2+2 was withdrawn slightly earlier than the roadster with production ceasing in September 1973.
Recently unearthed following a twenty-five year hibernation in dry storage, this two owner, original California car is a real gem. Recently repainted to the original color of Primrose yellow, the panel fit is very good and the finish is understandably exemplary. The interior is original except for the headlining which has recently been replaced but otherwise shows minimal signs of use that arguably even defies the low mileage of 66,000 from new. A thorough recommissioning was undertaken in order for this Series III example to return to road use, which included a new rear muffler and resonator, fuel pump, carburetor rebuild and at great expense the air conditioning system was overhauled (a process that necessitated a new compressor and modified to accept the latest Freon.) With the 'ice cold' air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission and the silky V12 this coupe drives extremely well and (largely thanks to its dryness and originality) is refreshingly tight. It is our opinion that this could even be considered as an ideal daily driver; with the generous accommodation and amenities on offer, the Series III coupe is considered to be the ideal E-Type derivative for the taller custodian who may otherwise be unable to sample the joys of E-Type ownership.Source - Christies
