1903 Franklin Model A Navigation
The H.H. Franklin Manufacturing Company of Syracuse, New York was without question, the most successful producer of air-cooled automobiles in the United States. The company which manufactured cars from 1902-1934 was founded by Herbert H. Franklin and John Wilkinson, an engineer, who designed and built cars combining high quality with light weight. The cars had a distinct reputation for dependability and long life. In more than 30 years of production, the company never made a water-cooled machine and sold more than 150,000 cars in all. This is the fourth oldest of nine 1903 Franklins known to exist. Just 219 total cars were built that year. As late as 1927, Franklin still produced a car using a chassis frame with wooden side members and full-elliptic springs in order to give the best possible ride.
