1967 AAR Eagle MK3 Monoposto

Six AAR Eagle Indy Cars were built in 1967. This car, entered by Smokey Yunick, is one of three private Eagles entered in the '500.' Yunick was one of America's foremost racing mechanics; nobody was more innovative in interpreting and massaging the rulebook. Yunick made a number of subtle aerodynamic modifications including covering exposed rivets with bondo, fairing in suspension components and intake stacks, fitting wheel discs for qualifying, and applying a flat panel to the dual exhaust pipes to generate rear downforce. Driven by Denny Hulme who, after charging from 24th to fourth, won the '67 '500s'' Rookie of the Year award. Just three weeks earlier Hulme had won the Grand Prix of Monaco, his first career WC F1 victory in the season that ended on Oct 22 in Mexico City with the '67 Indy Rookie of the Year crowned the Formula 1 World Champion! A year later, Hulme won the Can-Am Championship and followed up with another Can-Am title in '69.
