1957 Ford Fairlane 500 V8 Skyliner Convertible

The Ford Fairlane was introduced as the company's top-of-the-range model in 1955 and can claim to be America's first production convertible to feature a retractable hardtop. More expensive than the conventional Sunliner, at the touch of a button, the Skyliner's roof automatically retracted back into the boot.

The Fairlane was offered in six different body styles and endowed with a choice of six-cylinder or V8 engines. 1957 brought updated styling with lower bodies and modern tail fins. The Fairlane 500 was introduced as the ultimate trim level.

This particular Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner is powered by a 312 cubic-inch, overhead-valve V8 'Thunderbird Special' engine fitted with a single 4-barrel carburetor and delivering 225 horsepower. It is backed by a two-speed automatic transmission, with stopping power provided by drums on all wheels.

This Fairlane has been owned by its present caretaker since 2006. It was given a quality restoration some years ago which remains in fine form in modern times. The interior is done in a two-tone light blue with a simial scheme applied to the exterior. There are color-matched rear fender skirts, a factory jack, and 58,615 miles on the odometer.
