This 1964 Facel Vega Facel II Coupe with chassis number HK2 B136 was ordered by Hoffman Motors for the American market. It was production number '136' meaning it was the 137th Facel II produced. It was given a 383 cubic inch Chrysler Wedge V8 paired with a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission. It was finished in a Silver Grey exterior with red leather upholstery and center locking wire wheels. Standard equipment included Dunlop disc brakes, a limited-slip differential, power steering, an HMV radio with automatic antenna, power windows, clear glass, and a single four-barrel Carter AFB carburetor.
It is believed that the car was originally delivered to a Southern California doctor or dentist with the California black plate 'HOX675'. The second owner was from Newport Beach, California who repainted the car Thunderbird red and redid the interior in black leather. A short time later, the car was traded in for a new Jaguar. From 1972 to 1974, the Facel entered the long-term care of Verrack Hawkins of Long Beach, California, who kept it for about three decades. During that time, it was registered with the California blue vanity plate 'A FACEL' to answer the persistently asked question, 'what kind of car is that?' It was later owned by Mark Morgan who tracked down much of the car's history.
Mr. Morgan sold the car to Leo Brereton of Penn Valley, California who registered it with the California plate '5HXP000'. While in Mr. Brereton's ownership, and under Mr. Morgan's direction, the car was given a cosmetic refurbishment in 2005, including the black over grey leather scheme it currently wears. It is believed that the stereo was also upgraded at the time with the inclusion of an AM/FM/CD head unit.
Mr. Brereton retained the car for approximately five years and in 2010 it was purchased by the current caretaker. It has seen very little use since that time.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2022
