The Studebaker automobile was built in South Bend, IN, and they were in the car manufacturing business from 1902 to 1966, a total of 64 years. They produced electric-powered cars for the first two years and introduced gasoline power in 1904.
The example seen here is a rare 1928 FB President Victoria Coupe. The term FB indicated a half-year model introduction. The President was the top of the line for Studebaker.
This car has a straight 8-cylinder engine developing 109 horsepower. It sold new for $1,875.
It is painted in authentic Port Wine Red with Damson Plum Maroon fenders. The beltline molding is striped in contrasting red. Inside, the dashboard is walnut and the upholstery is maroon leather. The carpets are gray, with a maroon binding matching the seats. There are dual side-mounts and wire wheels. In the rear (and very unusual for a two-door coupe with seating for four) is a folding luggage rack over the rear bumper. During the 1990s, this vehicle was treated to a full restoration.
In 2008 this 1928 Studebaker Series FB President was brought to RM Auctions' Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook. It was estimated to sell for $70,000-$90,000 and offered without reserve. Bidding reached $52,800, including the buyer's premium, which was below the estimated value but was enough to satisfy the vehicle's reserve. The lot was sold.
