This Porsche 930 is the 162nd of 274 first-year 930 Turbos built for the 1975 model year. Its 2,994cc Type 930/50 SOHC flat 6-cylinder engine uses a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, a single KKK turbocharger, and delivers 260 horsepower at 5,500 RPM. There is a four-speed manual transaxle, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and an independent suspension with torsion bars.
This Porsche 930 was special-ordered by Juan Guinovart Paredes of Barcelona through Spain's official Porsche importer. Although it is a 'Turbo,' it was ordered without a tail so it would appear like a standard 911 in hopes of circumventing punitive import taxes on performance cars. Accommodating this request, Porsche built a one-off fiberglass front valance to balance the car's aerodynamics. It was finished in Salmon Metallic (code 036) over a black leather interior with copper red carpeting. It was given sports seats, Fuchs wheels with gold centers, a limited-slip differential, Blaupunkt Bamberg radio, no air-conditioning, and model designation delete. It is believed that this 930 was the only example built by the factory without a rear wing.
The car's interim history is not well known, but by 2014 it had been purchased by its current caretaker, and subsequently entrusted to Cam Ingram and his Porsche restoration shop Road Scholars in Durham, North Carolina. It was given a four-year restoration which returned it to the same condition as when it left the factory in April of 1975. It was refinished in its original Salmon Metallic hue, the interior re-upholstered using correct materials, and its drivetrain was rebuilt.By Daniel Vaughan | May 2022
