1957 Maserati 450 S Navigation
Maserati constructed ten 450S race cars in 1957. This was the fastest sports racing car in the world in that year. It carries a 5.7 liter V8 engine producing over 400 horsepower and had a top speed in excess of 190 MPH.
This car had been driven by Masten Gregory, for the factory, in the 1957 Grand Prix of Caracas, Venezuela, where it led the race. Juan Manuel Fangio practiced in the car for the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix, but he was abducted by Cuban rebels and the car was driven by Maurice Trintignant.
This car is one of two 450S cars commissioned by Carroll Shelby. It was owned by the Temple Buell team. They campaigned the car extensively in 1958 and 1959, with Shelby driving. The car was later piloted by Jim Hall in the early 1960's.
