1938 Packard 1607 Twelve Touring Sedan

Packard introduced its Sixteenth Series Super Eight and Twelve models in September 1937 with mostly cosmetic changes. Packard sales totaled 48,682 units for 1938, less than 1937; still the best showing of all independent manufacturers. Just 566 V-12 models would bear 1938 registrations and the silent and smooth 160 horsepower 473 cubic-inch engine was discontinued after the 1939 model year as the 'cylinder wars' had come to an end. So, too, the market for custom coachwork was rapidly declining along with the number of luxury car markers following the stock market crash of 1929.

This vehicle was donated to the St. Michaels Collection by a generous benefactor to further the efforts to promote the hobby through student initiative programs.
