2020 McLaren Sabre by MSO Navigation
McLaren introduced its Sabre in late 2020 and it immediately became the most powerful non-hybrid road car produced by McLaren engineers to date. A mere fifteen examples were built and all were constructed to the specifications of its original owner. They were built atop the track-focused Senna and took the hypercar concept to new extremes with its twin-turbocharged 4.0L V-8 powerplant factory-rated at 824 HP—165 more than the Senna and 20 more than even the Elva roadster.
The McLaren Sabre has track credentials but was built primarily as a road car. It possesses a compliant, road-worthy ride, yet is devoid of performance compromises. It is capable of achieving top speeds of 218 MPH, one MPH faster than the Senna.
The McLaren Sabre, built by McLaren Special Operations, was intended for the U.S. market, and when the Sabre was first announced to the public, McLaren advised that all fifteen examples were already allocated to the company's most ardent U.S.-based clients. The public got its first glimpse of the new Sabre in the fall of 2020 at California's private Thermal Club track, where buyers enjoyed the opportunity to drive a wildly camouflaged Sabre development car. Images of the new McLaren were published throughout the motoring press.
McLaren's clients were able to provide direct feedback from their experience via dedicated video chats with McLaren's design and engineering teams at the company's Woking, UK, headquarters. Thus, the Sabre reflected its buyers' specific desires and needs. Each example was given optional paint, trim and interior combinations - each was tailored and specially built for its new owner.
Design cues of the Sabre included upright, blade-type front and rear fender extensions, upward-sweeping side treatment terminated by upright LED tail lights, fully skirted doors and rockers, rear air diffusers, and a full-width rear wing. The carbon fiber monocage chassis structure was shared with the Senna and featured the company's signature, upward-swinging doors and clamshell-type front and rear hatches.
This particular example is number 11 of 15 examples produced by McLaren Special Operations. It currently has 100 miles since new. It has Liquid Argentum with Gloss VCF and Liquid Papaya pinstripes, a carbon fiber monocage chassis, interwoven visual carbon fiber graphics on side blades, Volcano Orange brake calipers with a black McLaren logo, and Volcano Orange driver's seat and Carbon Black passenger seat. There are contrasting MSO logos embroidered on the headrests, visual satin carbon fiber interior accents, liquid Papaya sea shell pinstripes, and diamond-milled 7-spoke wheels in gloss black.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2022
