The world's first supercar had a low and menacing stance, mid-engine configuration, an attractive and graceful wedge-shaped design, with equally impressive engineering that included a transversely mounted V12 engine displacing four liters and fed by four Weber carburetors. It was positioned amidship and would set the theme for other supercars that followed. The chassis was engineered by Giampaolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani, the body was built by Bertone in Turin, and the design was by Marcello Gandini. The name paid homage to Don Eduardo Miura, breeder of legendary fighting bulls.
The first series of Miura is known as P400 and the subsequent model iteration was termed 'P400 S.' The P400 S models received ventilated disc brakes, Bertone badging, a revised center console, an interior switch panel, and myriad cosmetic updates. Lamborghini produced 338 examples of its Miura P400 S and most wore red, green, or white color schemes.
This particular Lamborghini Miura P400 S is finished in Argento Indianapolis Metallizzato ('Silver Indianapolis Metallic') and is one of about 5% with this color scheme and was produced in 1969. It was dispatched on April 17th of 1969 with production number 357. The interior was finished in 'Nero' (black) and beige 'Fintapelle' (leatherette) and cloth.
The car was ordered by the dealer Lamborauto and known to have resided in Italy until 1979, after which it was exported to Japan. It is believed that the car remained overseas as Japanese ownership was reported in 2000, prior to the car's importation to the United States in more recent years.
Between 2013 and 2022, the car was given exhaustive service, repair, and maintenance work. Since 2016, it has been driven around 5,000 miles.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2022
