Chevrolet's expanded 1962 lineup included the all-new Chevy II economy compacts, a restyled full-size fleet, the Corvette, and Corvair 95 trucks - including the Loadside pickup. The driver-forward R12 model trucks were introduced in 1961 and the vans rested atop a Corvair platform and were offered alongside the company's more conventional C/K series 1/2-ton light-duty trucks.
Chevrolet's thirty Chevy II sedans and wagons provided internal competition for the Corvair passenger cars, so the company moved the Corvair towards a Sporty persona. The Sporty Monza range included the practical wagons and the 150 horsepower turbocharged Spyder.
The Chevy Corvair 95 truck line was comprised of a panel delivery van known as the Corvan and the Loadside pickup. The Loadside had a drop-down side loading ram and a low-slung center section, earning the name, the Rampside. The Corvair 95 trucks had unibody construction with heavy-duty section beams, four-wheel independent suspension and coil springs, and an air-cooled flat-six engine paired with a three-speed manual transaxle. The 145 cubic-inch horizontally opposed engine was factory-rated for 80 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque.
It is believed that 369 examples of the Corvair 95 Loadside were produced in 1962. The Corvair 95 trucks would fade from existence with the redesign of the 1965 Corvair. The introduction of the 1964 El Camino made the Corvans redundant.
