1966 Meyers Manx Navigation
The Meyers Manx owes its existence to Bruce F. Meyers and the Southern California surf scene. Designed as a dune buggy with the intent of providing a playful driving experience, the Meyers Manx made its debut in the early 1960s and would soon become an off-road icon. From humble beginnings in a small shed in Newport Beach, California, its popularity necessitated a move to larger facilities in Fountain Valley, California.
This particular example has a fiberglass body finished in its original Tangerine Red gelcoat. The 1,600cc Volkswagen flat four-cylinder engine breathes through a single carburetor and delivers an estimated sixty horsepower at 4,500 RPM. There is a four-speed manual transaxle, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, and an independent front suspension with torsion bars. In the back is a swing axle with torsion bars.
This Meyers Manx was originally purchased by its first owner in Indiana and was primarily used in parades. Among its period-correct options include the soft top, chrome steel wheels, Dietz headlights, and the original Meyers Manx nose emblem.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2022
