1993 Porsche 964 Carrera RSR Navigation
The purpose-built Carrera RSR 3.8 was developed by the Porsche Motorsport department in Weissach, Germany. It was a competition version of the 964 model that had been introduced in 1989, an evolution of the 964 Carrera RS and Cup models, and intended to compete in European GT racing and the North American Supercars Series. Accolades achieved during its racing career include victories at the 24 Hours of Spa, 24 Hours of Interlagos, and Suzuka 1000 Km, along with victories at LeMans, Sebring, and Daytona.
The 3.8-liter M64/04 engine powering the 964 Carrera RSR was rated at 325 horsepower at 6,900 RPM and drove the rear wheels via a five-speed transaxle with a 40% limited-slip differential.
Porsche built 55 road-going RS 3.8 models to comply with FIA homologation requirements and 51 examples of the Carrera RSR 3.8. This particular Carrera RS 3.8 was delivered to its first owner, Walter Scheuermann of Memmingen, Germany, on December 15, 1993. Ordered through Porsche's customer racing department, it was specified in Guards Red and equipped with ADAC GT-type exhaust, Le Mans gear ratios, air jacks, a 120-liter fuel tank, and a passenger seat.
This 964 RSR was never entered in competition. It was later sold to Garage Le Mans of Osaka, Japan where it was displayed in the company's showroom for nearly two decades. David Mohlman acquired the RSR in 2013 and imported to the United States. Shortly after its arrival, the car was sold to its current caretaker. Since then, the car has been displayed at Rennsport Reunion V in September 2015.
This Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8 is one of two cars painted Guards Red and is believed to be the lowest mileage RSR in existence, with 19 km on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2022
