1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Spider Corsa

It is believed that four cars were produced by Carrozzeria Touring to a Spider Corsa design on the competition Tipo 256 version of the 6C 2500 SS. The first example to receive the coachwork was chassis number 915024, which was known as Torpedino. Its inaugural racing debut under the Alfa Corse banner was on August 15th, 1939, at the Targa Abruzzo, where it was driven by Ferdinando Righetti to victory. Three more cars with similarly full-figured coachwork then followed the Alfa Romeo factory team for the 1940 Mille Miglia. None of these four SPider Corsa vehicles are known to have survived.

This particular example, although having the same chassis number as the first Touring-bodied Tipo 256, is a replica. It has the same chassis and engine numbers as the original Spider Corsa. It was bodied in the spring of 1989 and was given a body design that was largely similar to the original Touring design. In 1994, the car was in the ownership of the Fromo Corporation of Japan and was believed to have been part of the present collection since the early 1990s.
