2018 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Navigation
Automaker Aston Martin of Britain and coachbuilder Zagato of Italy jointly created a lightened and streamlined version of the DB4 in 1960, known as the DB4GT Zagato racecar. In its inaugural racing debut in 1961, Stirling Moss placed third at the Goodwood TT.
Following a lengthy period of time, the duo rekindled their relationship in the mid-1980s with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage wearing custom coachwork and paying homage to their previous collaboration. The 21st century would witness more special creations with iterations of the DB7, Vanquish, V12 Vantage, and DBS. In 2016, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, on the shores of Lake Como, Aston Martin introduced its Vanquish Zagato in concept form. Four production body styles would eventually follow, including the coupe, speedster, shooting brake, and the Volante convertible.
A year later, the Vanquish Zagato Volante made its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where the drop-top version was presented alongside the production Vanquish Zagato coupe. Both shared similar styling cues including the bladed rear-end treatment inspired by the Vulcan supercar, while the wing mirrors were sourced from the One-77 supercar. Different design elements are the twin cowls integrated into the Volante's rear deck, above the belt line, and merging into the leading edge of the trunk lid. Concealed underneath is the convertible top specific to the Zagato Volante.
Aston Martin's bespoke Q division was responsible for the special cabin, endowing it with quilted Z-pattern detail on the Bridge of Weir leather upholstery and a herringbone pattern for the dashboard and doors. Beneath the bonnet lurked a 6.0-liter V12 engine uprated to nearly 600 horsepower.
This particular Vanquish Zagato Volante is number 88 of 99 produced and one of approximately a dozen sent to the U.S. market. Still in the care of its original Downey, California resident, this Aston Martin currently has 1,052 miles on its odometer. It is finished in Satin Predator Grey exterior with Pearl White and Pure Black duotone leather interior. Among the list of standard equipment include the Bridge of Weir leather, front and rear cameras, carbon ceramic brakes, and a Bang and Olufsen audio system. Factory options include satin paint, carbon-fiber paddle shifters, One-77 color-keyed steering wheel, carbon-fiber side strakes, black textured tailpipe finisher, and heated and ventilated front seats.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2022
