1992 Ferrari F40 Navigation
Ferrari sent 213 examples of the F40 to the United States with sixty of those in 1992. Produced from 1987 through 1992, the total production was 1,315 units, far exceeding the planned production total of 400 units. Designed for competition purposes, the F40 received a race-developed steel tube-frame chassis with four-wheel double-wishbone independent suspension, coil-over Koni shock absorbers, and four-caliper ventilated disc brakes. Styling was penned by Leonardo Fioravanti and aerodynamically perfected in Pininfarina's wind tunnel. The body construction was created of Kevlar and carbon fiber, reducing the curb weight by approximately 20 percent while simultaneously tripling the car's structural rigidity.
Mounted midship was a 2.9-liter V8 fitted with twin IHI turbochargers and Behr intercoolers. Paired with a five-speed transaxle actuated by a gated shifter, the Type F120 040 engine offered 478 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque. Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in 3.8 seconds and top speed was achieved at 201 mph
To keep weight at a minimum, the interior received cloth upholstery on plastic-composite racing seats, pull-strap door releases, drilled pedals, and Perspex windows.
Ferrari introduced the F40 in 1987 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
This Ferrari F40 completed assembly in September 1991 and wore a Rosso Corsa exterior and trimmed with Stoffa Vigogna (vicuña cloth) seat upholstery. It was shipped for import to Newark, New Jersey, and was distributed for retail to Monterey Ferrari in Seaside, California. It was officially sold in October 1991 and was delivered in January 1992 to the first owner, Putra Masagung of Hillsborough, California. Over the next thirteen years, it passed through one other California-based owner before it was acquired around late 2005 by another owner in California. The car accrued occasional miles before it was sold to its current custodian.
In February 2020 the F40 was issued certification from Ferrari Classiche, including a Certificate of Authenticity and a Red Book. It was also issued a Classiche Libretto Manutenzione, a Classiche-issued maintenance log that is stamped with a factory-conducted service at that time.
This Ferrari currently has 9,447 miles on the odometer. It is fitted with a Tubi exhaust and rides on correct Pirelli P-Zero tires.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2022
