The third generation of the Porsche 911 was introduced in 1988 at the Paris Motor Show and although its appearance was similar to the G series, Porsche claimed it to be 85% new. The 964 was endowed with superior aerodynamics to the G series, with a flat undertray beneath the chassis, an electrically adjustable spoiler recessed on the rear cover, and body-integrated plastic bumpers. Mounted in the back was a new Type M64/01 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine developing 247 horsepower and 228 lbs-ft of torque in standard guise. Additional improvements included power steering, anti-lock brakes, coil-over suspension, twin-plug ignition, a newly developed four-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, and available all-wheel drive. Body styles included coupe and cabriolet configurations, and other variants introduced a Targa and a Turbo model with wide fender flares. The 964 was offered only with the narrow body shape, while the 1989 911 Speedster could be purchased in either narrow or wide Turbo-body forms. VIP Customers wanted a Turbo-Look Speedster prompting Porsche to eventually acquiesce, offering this configuration through their 'special wishes' Porsche Exclusive department. It was never included in official sales literature or internal data sheets and could only be ordered upon special request. The Turbo-Look Speedster added wider wheels and tires, and the rear-axle trailing arms and hub assembly from the Turbo 3.3. There are 21mm and 22mm front and rear anti-roll bars, and rear brake calipers.
It is believed that only sixteen examples of the Turbo-Look Speedsters were built, with 11 built during regular production and assigned with special option code 'Z 16771.' The remaining five were converted by Porsche after they were ready for delivery and retrofitted with the Turbo-Look modifications.
This 1994 Porsche 964 Turbo-Look Speedster currently has 29,479 km on its odometer and is believed to be the lowest mileage example of the 16 factory-built Turbo-Look Speedsters. Completed by the factory in September 1993, this factory-built 'Z 16771' code Turbo-Look Speedster left the factory wearing Guards Red over a black leather interior. It was specified with a limited-slip differential, automatic climate control, onboard computer, silver-painted wheels, Blaupunkt 'Symphony' radio, and model designation delete. The car's first owner was from Germany and in July 1997 it was acquired by Roger Orzeslki of Niebüll, Germany. The car remained in the care of Mr. Niebüll for many years before being purchased by its current American custodian.
