1967 Chaparral 2F Navigation
The Chaparral 2F was a closed cockpit prototype version of the 1966 Chaparral 2E. The 1967 version was fitted with a very high moveable wing, mounted on struts and spanning the full width of the car. The wing was controlled by the driver's left foot. The driver pushed down to hold the wing in a flag low-drag position when accelerating on the straights and released the pedal, which moved the front of the wing to a downward angle to slow the car down when cornering. This car housed a Chevrolet aluminum big-block 427 cubic-inch 7-litre V8 engine under its fiberglass bodywork.

Two 2F's were fielded at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1967, the #7 car was driven by Phil Hill and Mike Spence, while the #8 car was driven by Bob Johnson and Bruce Jennings. Car #7 chalked up the second-best qualifying time behind the Ford Mark VI with Mark Donahue and Bruce McLaren at the wheel. Unfortunately, neither Chaparrals finished the race. The #7 car was forced to park it for the day after 18 hours or 225 laps while the #8 car's day came to an end after just 10 hours, completing 91 laps.

However, the Chaparral 2F was still an inspiring car and similar movable wings made their appearance in Formula One racing the next year. They were reintroduced, subject to regulations, under the name DRS (Drag Reduction System) in 2011.
