1940 Buick Series 70 Roadmaster Pickup

Buick offered no less than five series for 1940 – Limited Series 80 and 90, Roadmaster Series 70, Century Series 60, Super Series 50 and Special Series 40. While underneath cars were essentially the same as 1939, a skillful and very artistic re-working of the grille and fender design gave the cars a completely different appearance. Buick did not offer a truck, however, four were built by Buick Engineering Department for use inside the giant Buick plant in Flint. Michigan. Three trucks were painted black as utility vehicles. This vehicle, Body No. 621, was painted red for the fire chief of the plant. The Engineering Department took Roadmaster coupe bodies and did the conversions in-house. The trucks were used into the Fifties until they were deemed scrap. This pickup still has its original engine which would be one of the first blocks cast for the 1940 production year.
