1911 Mercer Model 35 Raceabout

    1911 Mercer Model 35 Navigation
Mercer called Trenton home and it took its name from the New Jersey County in which it was made. Production began in 1910 and continued through 1925. The Roebling family was the money behind Mercer, perhaps best known as the builders of the Brooklyn Bridge; and Washington Roebling was one of those who tragically perished when the Titanic sunk in frigid Arctic waters. The Raceabout was introduced in late-1910 as a 1911 model; light as it was low, and spartan as it was sophisticated. It was designed largely by Finley Robinson Porter, a brilliant engineer. Though powered by a 34hp T-head four-cylinder engine, it was quick and nimble. And, at $2,250, it was most expensive for a car with limited utility. Today, this is arguably THE most collectible of all Brass Era cars.
