2004 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Navigation
The Type 996 GT3 was introduced in 1999 and designed to homologate the 911 for FIA GT3 sports car racing. Among the accolades achieved by the GT3 in competition included class victories at Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring. An even more track-focused RS (Rennsport / racing sport) variant arrived for the 2003 model year and was based on the updated version of the 996, the 996.2. Power was from the same water-cooled Mezger-designed flat-six as the standard GT3 model, with output rated at 380 bhp at 7,400 RPM and 283 lb/ft of torque at 5,000 RPM. Where it differentiated itself from the standard model was primarily in its lower weight, thanks to its polycarbonate rear window, carbon fiber hood, and rear wing. Optional equipment was minimal but did include ceramic composite brakes.
The regular 996 GT3 was made available in the United States and Canada, but the track-focused RS was never officially imported when new.
This particular 2004 Porsche 996 GT3 RS is one of 682 examples built between 2003 and 2005. It was completed by the factory on May 11th, 2004, and delivered to its first owner in Belgium. It left the factory with a Carrera White paint scheme with Red graphics and wheels over a black fabric interior with an optional body-color-painted center console, green-tinted windscreen, Pirelli tires, and Porsche CDR 23 radio. This was one of the few examples to receive the Clubsport package, which added a roll cage, Schroth six-point racing harnesses for the fixed-back Recaro bucket seats, and a single-mass flywheel.
The current American owner acquired this Porsche in February 2020, and after importing it into the US, commissioned JK Technologies of Baltimore, Maryland, to federalize the car to US standards. Currently, this 996 GT3 RS has 1,602 miles on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Mar 2023
