2016 Porsche 911 GT3 Navigation
Put simply, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS continued the performance ethos of its forefather, the iconic 911 Carrera 2.7 RS.
The RS (or RennSport) version of the 991 GT3 was introduced in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show and was essentially a street-legal, track-focused improvement over its already impressive GT3 stablemate. Power was sourced from a 4.0-liter flat-6 engine offering 500 horsepower, transferred to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK automatic transmission. (The previous 3.8-liter engine produced 475 horsepower). Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in 3.3 seconds and could circumnavigate the Nurburgring in just 7 minutes, 20 seconds.
The RS package included the standard Club Sport Package, fully adjustable racing suspension, rear-axle steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with fully variable rear axle differential lock. The new body shell was sourced from the 911 Turbo and endowed with aerodynamic and mechanical improvements. Weight was reduced by the magnesium roof, wider rear fenders allowed for an increased rear track, the rear fender side scoops serve as 'ram-air' conduits to the naturally aspirated engine, and the prominent adjustable rear wing mounted on the rear decklid provides massive downforce. At the front, the fenders had vents that served to evacuate high-pressure build-up in the front wheel-well housing. The front splitter is fenced along its vertical leading edge to direct air-flow.
The interior houses bucket seats, harnesses, and fire extinguisher mounting bracket. Carbon fiber and lightweight accents adorn the purposeful interior. There is a bolted-on roll cage behind the front seats, preparation for a battery master switch, and a six-point safety harness for the driver.
The fully adjustable suspension allows changes to the ride height, camber, toe angle, and anti-rollbars. The additional split rear wishbones enable greater accuracy when setting the rear camber. Additional standard features included rear-axle steering, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and Porsche Active Suspension Management.
This particular 2016 Porsche 991 GT3 RS is painted in white over a black leather and Alcantara interior with GT Silver deviated stitching. Optional equipment includes a front-axle lift system, a 23.9-gallon fuel tank, ceramic composite brakes, Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Communication Management, Sound Package Plus, LED headlights, Satin Black wheels, and carbon fiber and aluminum personalizations.
