The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG entered production in 2010 after having been unveiled in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Its design was penned by Mark Fetherston with homage paid to the legendary 300 SL Gullwing of the 1950s and the SLR McLaren which entered production in 2009. Iconic styling details included the gullwing doors, lightweight body, and potent V8 power. The car became even more exclusive with the introduction of the SLS AMG Black Series for the 2014 model year.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series was offered solely as a coupe and brought modifications and improvements throughout the interior and exterior. The engine received modified camshafts, revised cam geometry, and special racing-specification tappets, boosting output for the 6.2-liter unit to 622 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque. The Black Series claimed the title of being the highest-horsepower naturally aspirated production V-8 in the world at the time. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the Black Series went from zero-to-sixty mph in 3.5 seconds and had a top speed of 196 mph.
The body panels received intake air ducting, the factory steel exhaust was replaced by a unique titanium system, and the interior was trimmed largely in Alcantara. Weight was reduced by 150 pounds, complementing the highly tuned mechanical specification.
Just 132 examples of the SLS AMG Black Series coupes were delivered new to the United States.
This particular example is finished in Mystic White II over a black interior. It has resided in its current (and only) owner's care since new, who traded a standard SLS AMG in October of 2013 through Ray Catena Mercedes-Benz of Edison, New Jersey. The car's only options were Black Series Forged wheels finished in contrasting black and measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. It also received the Black Series Telematics Packages, which included GPS navigation with SiriusXM Radio, DVD/CD changer, Voice Control, Blind Spot Assist, and a rearview camera.
