This construction of this Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 is believed to have been completed in December of 1949 and it wore a Light Green exterior. It is also believed to have left the factory with a Nardi conversion option, including a three-spoke Nardi steering wheel and floor shifter (rather than the standard column shifter).
Gino Rossato of Vicenza, Italy, acquired the Alfa Romeo in April 1950 and within three years, it was in the care of Jack Worseldine, a US naval officer stationed in Naples. When Mr. Worseldine returned to the United Sates, his Alfa was exported to America in October 1958, and soon registered in the state of Iowa. Charles Leininger of Mission, Kansas purchased the 6C 2500 in September 1960, selling it to Walter Deitchmann of Kansas City, Missouri two years later. The car remained in Mr. Deitchmann's possession for twenty-seven years.
Tom Congleton of Paradise Valley, Arizona, purchased the Alfa Romeo in May 1989 and immediately commenced a nut-and-bolt restoration with the work entrusted to Steve Gundler Restorations and Carriage Motor Works. Upon completition, the car wore a 'rosso' paint scheme.
Post restoration, Mr. Congleton displayed the 6C 2500 at the 1992 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and the 1998 Concorso Italiano. It won several awards at meetings of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, and it was featured on the cover of the club's magazine for three different issues.
The Alfa Romeo entered new ownership in May 2002 who continued to present the Super Sport at AROC events and local shows, including two appearances at the Tutto Italiano at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts - winning Best of Show at the 2008 event.
In 2012, the Alfa Romeo was given a full restoration by Bonfanti Garage in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy. The engine and running gear were comprehensively rebuilt, while the coachwork was refinished in the original shade of light green, and the interior was reupholstered with original-style boar hides. The work took over seven years to complete with costs exceeding $500,000. The car has not been shown at a concours d'elegance since completion.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2023
