1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Navigation
Ferrari introduced the 365GTB/4 in 1968 at the Paris Salon. It gained its unofficial 'Daytona' nickname in honor of its 1-2-3 finish by the Ferrari 330P4 at the circuit in 1967. The elegant and aggressive styling was courtesy of Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti, who gave it a bonnet that was nearly half the car's total length. The shark-nosed styling was complemented by a small cabin and short tail.
The prototype was styled and built by Pininfarina in Turin, while the manufacture of the production version was entrusted to Ferrari's subsidiary, carrozzeria Scaglietti, in Modena. Power was sourced from an all-alloy, four-cam twelve-cylinder engine displacing 4,390cc and delivering 52 horsepower at 7,500 RPM and 318 lb/ft of torque at 5,500 RPM. It was positioned low in the oval-tube chassis thanks to dry-sump lubrication, having originated in the preceding 275GTB.
The Daytona was not available with power steering and power steering was optional. Fewer than 1,300 Berlinetta examples were built, and 123 Spiders by the time production ceased in 1973.
This Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta was completed on September 20, 1973, and left the factory wearing Nero 20-B-50 paint with a Nero with red inserts leather interior. Destined for the United States, it was optioned with air conditioning and power windows.
This Ferrari was delivered to Bill Harrah's West Coast Distributorship Modern Classic Motors MCM in Reno, Nevada. Later that year, the car then sold to its first owner through Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo in Portland, Oregon. From 1975 to 1980, it was in the care of Ron Kinard Farris of Carson, California but remained registered in Oregon with the plate 'MHU 857'. Near the close of the 1980s, it was owned by Dr. Hervé Gentile of Port Aransas, Texas. A few years later, the car was sold to its current caretaker.
In June of 2003, the Daytona received its Ferrari Heritage Certificate, number 0001741.By Daniel Vaughan | May 2023
