1964 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 Navigation
Production of this 1964 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 commenced on November 15th, 1963. By November 19th of 1963, work was completed and it wore a Light Ivory exterior with an unusual Green Leatherette/Corduroy and Green carpeted interior. Following road tests and inspections, the 356 Carrera was delivered to Freidrich Rosenberger of Lichtenberg, Germany, through Porsche dealer Krauss of Nuremberg. By 1967, the car had received its 100,000-kilometer badge.
At some point in the car's existence, it received a Typ 587/1 (1966 cc) engine, serial number 97052 - a factory replacement for chassis no. 120262 installed on June 18, 1962, and is one of just 447 Type 587/1 four-cam models produced. It currently has a 587/2 engine (GT) type stamp, and is believed to have been built to that specification. It has 587/2 style dual Weber 46 IDM/2 carburetors and factory built 587/2 four-cams.
The current owner acquired this Porsche in Italy, and shortly after it arrived in the United States, it was sent to Jeff Adams of Speedsport Tuning of Danbury, Connecticut. The work included removing the engine and a valve adjustment and cam drive check. Compression and leakdown were measured and were within normal and allowable limits. New plugs and spark plug wires were installed, along with an MSD Street Fire CD. The Weber venturis were switched from 42 to 40m. Further checks were made to the engine, brakes, and suspension, with repairs made as needed. More recently, Rob Ida Concepts of Morganville, New Jersey was commissioned to strip and repaint the exterior in its original color of 6404 Light Ivory (hellelfenbein). Although it originally wore an entirely green interior (green leatherette, green corduroy and green carpets), 127620 now features green 'kunstleder' with contrasting tan corduroy and grey carpeting.
