1953 Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado Special Sport Convertible Coupe

Each of the 532 examples of the 1953 Cadillac Eldorado was hand-built at a special off-campus production facility, and each had its convertible body lowered an inch and a half on the chassis. It was the first American production car to have a wrap-around windshield and visored dashboard, and shared its cut-down doors with another limited-production GM special of this year, the inaugural Buick Skylark. The Eldorado rode on unique Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels, and the interior featured embossed stainless steel door saddle trim, unique sun visors and rear-view mirror, and sliding interior door handles. The power-operated convertible top disappeared under a 'parade boot' that was hinged and integral to the car, with a built-in prop bar. The switch that controlled the convertible top was inside the car on a rear quarter trim panel.

This particular Eldorado was built with body number 287 and was originally finished in Artesian Ochre. Later in its life, its exterior was refinished in another Eldorado-exclusive color, Aztec Red, but retains its correct red and white leather interior (trim code 38).

This Cadillac has power steering and brakes, a six-way power seat, a power white pinpoint vinyl top, and an AM radio. It has a full-sized matching spare and tire, and all the chrome remains original and in fine condition. The odometer displays 36,449 original miles.

This Cadillac was delivered new in Los Angeles and remains solid and unaltered.
