Following the acquisition of Aston Martin by Company Developments in 1972, there was a name change for the V-8-engine cars, with the DBS V8 becoming the AM V8. A distinguishable styling feature of this new 'Series 2' included two instead of four headlamps, and air conditioning and electronic ignition were now standard equipment. The 'Series 3' arrived in 1973, bringing with it a quartet of Weber 42 DCNF carburetors instead of the previous Bosch mechanical fuel injection. This arrangement brought an increase in torque and necessitated a larger bonnet bulge.
This particular Aston Martin V8 Sports Saloon is powered by a 5,340cc DOHC V8 engine with four Dual-Throat Weber carburetors and delivers 300 horsepower at 6,000 RPM. There is a three-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, and an independent suspension system.
This Aston was completed in October of 1976 and destined for the United States market. It was given an Ascot Grey over Burgundy leather interior, Grey headliner and Cherry Red carpets. Built to USA specifications, it was acquired through Continental Motors Inc. by Gerald Priebe on February 16, 1977. Later, it was shipped overseas, arriving in the Netherlands, in July of 1996. The current caretaker purchased the V8 Sports Saloon in July 2010 and has been on static display since that time.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2023
