In production for eleven years (1975 to 1986), just 531 examples were built, with approximately 30 per year. They were a two-door luxury saloon designed by Paolo Martin at Pininfarina and powered by a 6.75-liter V8 engine matted to a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission. It shared its platform with the Rolls-Royce Corniche and Silver Shadow, with a wheelbase of 120 inches and an overall length of 203.5 inches.
This Rolls-Royce was completed in the final months of production and was ordered new by Mortimer Grossman of Tony Manhasset, New York. It left the factory finished in Acrylic Georgian Silver with a Black Everflex roof and Double Brick Red fine lines over an interior resplendent in Black leather with Brick Red piping and matching carpets in the same colors.
Delivered new in August of 1986, its original owner used the car sparingly, accumulating about 1000 miles a year. In 1991, it moved to Chicago, Illinois, and into the care of its second owner. Gary and Louis Witham of Camden, Maine, acquired the car three years later, showing it at Rolls-Royce Owners Club events in the area.
In May of 2006, it was sold at Bonhams Brookline Auction to a dealer in Oregon, who quickly sold it to southern California from where the current owner acquired the car in the spring of 2018.
In July of 2007, the car had 37,691 miles on its odometer. It has added an additional 24 miles since that time (over the past sixteen years). In 2023, it returned to Bonhams auction, this time at The Quail in California, where it was sold into new ownership for the sum of $52,640, inclusive of the buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2023
