2020 Ford GT Navigation
When Ford introduced its ultimate track car at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, it was named the GT MK II after the car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. Ford Performance and Multimatic used everything they had learned from the FIA World Championship and International Motor Sports Competition when designing the track-only GT MK II, giving it a carbon fiber body tub, steel and aluminum substructures, and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine. Tuned to produce approximately 700 horsepower, it had approximately 53 more horsepower than the road-going GT and nearly 200 more than the competition racecars. An enhanced seven-speed Getrag 7DCL750 dual-clutch transaxle from the GT road car sent power to the GT MK II-specific, 19-inch Forgeline alloy wheels. A roof-mounted intake scoop aided in keeping the engine and fluids cooled, working in conjunction with a water sprayer system to reduce intercooler temperatures.
With the help of a massive dual-element fixed rear wing, the GT MK II creates 400% more downforce than the civilian GT and pulls over 2 gs of lateral grip. 15.5-inch Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes at the front and 14.1-inch units at the back provided the stopping power.
The minimalistic interior was devoid of non-essential items and received a rectangular racing steering wheel flanked by a simple dashboard and a number of new controls. An FIA-certified, GT MK II-specific Sparco racing seat cradled the driver, while the optional driver seat was a Sparco unit. Safety components included an FIA-compliant roll cage with a six-point Sparco racing harness and fire suppression system.
This particular example was the first ever offered for sale. It left the factory wearing a Blu Elettrico Viola exterior with twin Shadow Chrome racing stripes and an optional Sparco passenger seat. Its owner received the car in early 2020 with 48 kilometers on its odometer. It was brought to the Dubai Autodrome over the course of February and March 2020, and in July 2020, it was driven at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. After Silverstone, 001 was fitted with two new driveshaft assemblies along with new constant-velocity joints and boots, rear brake shrouds, and updated battery wiring. It rang at two events in Bahrain in February 2022 and currently has fewer than 750 kilometers (track mileage) on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2023
